Public Safety

Public Safety

Since the 2020 “defund the police” movement, public officials have shown dangerous hesitation in enforcing the law. Citizens feel abandoned as serious crimes go unanswered and communities lose trust that anyone is in charge. Washington doesn’t need experimental policing — it needs leaders who enforce existing laws.

The fix is simple: reaffirm rule of law and prioritize law-abiding citizens over criminals.
In 2024, conservatives stepped in where politicians failed, passing Initiative 2113 to restore “reasonable suspicion” for police pursuit. That single act reversed the failed 2021 restrictions that handcuffed officers and triggered record car thefts statewide. Our tax dollars pay for public safety — we deserve to feel safe and enjoy our city.

We strengthen safety by backing good officers, removing bad ones when necessary, and rebuilding respect for law enforcement at every level. That includes coordination with federal efforts to remove violent illegal offenders from our communities.

The Contrast

Democrats “reimagined” policing. Republicans restored it.

Their laws produced rising crime and fleeing officers. Our initiatives produce
consequences for crime and confidence for communities.

Democrats passed the “anti-sheriff” bill (SB 5974) allowing elected sheriffs to be de-certified by unelected bureaucrats on a commission controlled by the governor — a violation of separation of powers.

They have softened sentencing for convicted felons including sex offenders.

State-Level Public-Safety Priorities

• Support funding from HB 2015 to hire more police; ensure dollars go to recruitment, training, and retention — not consultants.

• Keep county sheriffs elected, not appointed; voters must choose their law enforcers.

Restore city rights to accept or refuse state-funded supportive housing linked to drug activity or repeat crime.

• Dedicate cannabis and opioid settlement revenue to local law enforcement and treatment, ensuring communities that need it the most get the help they need.

• Reform the Blake drug-possession “fix” with mandatory treatment for repeat offenders rather than endless dismissals.

“Public safety isn’t partisan — it’s government’s first duty.
Restore law, restore safety, restore trust.”
